Students will have nightly homework to reinforce concepts that were taught that day. The goal is to develop a healthy independent work habit at home that becomes regular and automatic. I will work closely with you and your children to help this become a smooth practice at home. My hope is for the quick daily practice to be a building block to help your child develop strong study skills to prepare them for their academic future.
The district's homework policy recommends 20 minutes a night of homework for 2nd grade. If your child is working beyond this time limit, stop and write to me, or reach out, and we will address the issue. We also would like students to read 20 minutes a day at home. It can be a great way to unwind after school, or right before bed. We encourage reading to a sibling, animal, in the mirror, to a grown up!
Homework Monday-Thursday Math: Worksheet of daily lesson Timed Test (3 minutes of math facts) Spelling: Review spelling words using study sheet and choosing different activity Reading: 20 minutes a night
Monthly Reading Log and Book Projects:
Every month students will receive a "Reading Log" where we recommend books that connect to the genres we are reading throughout our year. There are a few seasonal projects that accompany the Reading Log and it is due at the end of the month it's assigned. When students share their projects, they are getting great public speaking practice and confidence in front of an audience. The "Reading Log" instructions are stored in the S.H.A.R.K. folder in a plastic protector.
